India’s industrial activity gathered significant pace in June 2026, with the country’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) expanding by 7.3% year-on-year, marking its fastest growth in 23 months. The latest government data indicates broad-based strength across key sectors, reflecting improving economic momentum and robust domestic demand.

The manufacturing sector, which carries the highest weight in the IIP, registered a strong 7.8% growth, driven by increased production across multiple industries. The electricity and gas supply segment emerged as the fastest-growing component, expanding 10.6%, highlighting rising energy demand amid higher industrial and commercial activity.

Other sectors also recorded positive growth during the month. Water supply, sewerage and waste management grew by 6.1%, while the mining and quarrying sector posted a modest 1% increase.

Commenting on India’s industrial output growth, Mr. Shrikant Goyal, Co-Founder, Getfive, an integrated capital raising platform for growth-stage MSMEs, said, Despite the challenging global economic environment, it is heartening to see India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) register a robust 7.3% year-on-year growth in June 2026. The momentum in industrial activity is a positive sign for the economy and must be sustained in the coming months. MSMEs will play a pivotal role in maintaining this growth trajectory, given their significant contribution to manufacturing and employment. To enable them to scale and seize emerging opportunities, it is essential to ensure timely and adequate access to capital. The government and regulators, including the RBI and SEBI, should continue to strengthen the financing ecosystem so that MSMEs can meet their credit requirements through debt, equity, or a balanced combination of both. This will provide a further impetus to the MSME sector and reinforce India’s long-term industrial growth story.”

The across-the-board expansion suggests that India’s industrial recovery is becoming more broad-based, supported by improving manufacturing activity, infrastructure development, and sustained domestic consumption. Strong industrial growth is expected to provide a positive boost to overall economic growth in the coming quarters while strengthening employment and investment sentiment.

The latest IIP numbers also reinforce expectations that India’s industrial sector remains on a solid footing despite ongoing global economic uncertainties, with manufacturing continuing to serve as the primary driver of the country’s economic expansion.
